WESCOSA was formed as Westinghouse
Electric Supply Company of Saudi Arabia, Ltd. in the year 1976 as
a joint venture by Westinghouse Electric Corporation of USA with
a 60% share and Ali Zaid Al-Quraishi & Bros. Co. of Saudi Arabia
with a 40% share.
Initially, WESCOSA's product line included assembly of switchboards,
panel boards and accessories under a license agreement with Westinghouse
Electric Corporation – USA.
WESCOSA diversified its product mix in 1978 with the introduction
of cable support equipment (cable tray, cable ladders and accessories)
under license agreement with MP Husky Corporation – USA.
In 1979, WESCOSA started assembling oil filled transformers under
a license agreement with Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
Assembly of dry type transformer was added to WESCOSA products
in 1983, again under a license agreement with Westinghouse. In 1988,
Westinghouse sold its transformer division to WESCOSA. Since, then
WESCOSA has continued manufacturing oil filled distribution transformers
of the highest quality standards independently,now holding its own
type-test certifications.
In 1988, a change in the ownership of WESCOSA took place. Ali Zaid
Al-Quraishi & Bros. Co. purchased the Westinghouse share of
WESCOSA. WESCOSA then became a fully owned subsidiary of Ali Zaid
Al-Quraishi & Brothers. Co. and has operated since as Wahah
Electric Supply Company of Saudi Arabia Ltd., a 100% Saudi Arabian
Company.
It was also during that year when Westinghouse sold its transformer
division to a new owner, thereby ending its license agreement with
WESCOSA. Since then, WESCOSA has continued manufacturing oil filled
distribution transformers of highest quality standards independently.
WESCOSA now holds its own type-test certifications.
In early 1992, WESCOSA added 2100 Series MCC, Ampgard MV Starters
and WLI Switchgear to its product mix under a license agreement
with Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Also in 1992, under a license
agreement with POWELL Indusries, Inc. – USA, WESCOSA began
assembly of Metal Clad MV Vacuum Switchgear.
WESCOSA began assembly of Non-Segregated LV and MV Busduct under
a license agreement with UNIBUS Inc. – USA in 1993.
In 1994, WESCOSA entered into license agreement with AB Chance
– USA, to assemble Fuse Cutouts.
A change in ownership of Westinghouse Electric Corporation took
place in 1994, Westinghouse was acquired by Eaton Corporation. The
license agreements which WESCOSA had with Westinghouse were all
extended by Eaton Corporation through its subsidiary, Cutler-Hammer
with the same terms. In early 2000, C-H and WESCOSA enhanced their
cooperation by replacing the former license agreement with a Strategic
OEM Alliance Agreement
WESCOSA has experienced substantial growth during the past years
and has developed to its present size of nearly 600 employees while
occupying over 37,000 square meters of manufacturing and office
space. WESCOSA holds the reputation of being one of the oldest and
most successful and renowned manufacturers of electrical distribution
equipment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia being a 100% Saudi owned
manufacturing company. It is fully recognized by all major customers
within the Kingdom and various foreign turnkey project contractors.
Over thirty percent of our employees are Saudi nationals working
at all levels in the company.
WESCOSA is aiming high to continue its service to the electrical
and industrial sectors and will continue to be a major player in
development of the electrical system of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
WESCOSA is currently a very well established manufacturer of electrical
distribution products in-Kingdom. |
